Consistent and uninterrupted forward walking steps (at least 10 steps at a time) and wearing with good stability offers the best condition for your 3DFitBud to count your steps accurately.
Possible reasons why your 3DFitBud is not counting your steps accurately:
How you are wearing your 3DFitBud
Discrepancies can occur if step counters are carried very loosely, for example, carried in a very loose pocket or excessive swinging/bouncing on the lanyard, the sensor is not able to detect your walking motion accurately during such erratic movements.
Attach and wear your 3DFitBud with good stability for best accuracy.
- Clip to your waistband for best stability.
- Wear on the lanyard around your neck. If fast walking causes your 3DFitBud to swing or bounce around on the lanyard, try clipping it to your clothing or wearing under a layer of clothing.
- Place in a secure pocket (not loose). If your pocket is loose, try clip your 3DFitBud facing inside your pocket, still discreet with better stability.
If your 3DFitBud is being used indoors
Walking steps indoors are usually not continuous and would include a lot more stop-start/pausing - this differs from continuous steps outdoors which step counters rely on for best accuracy, because they are not capable of distinguishing between random movements and steps. Secure/stabilize your step counter for best accuracy.
10 Step Error Prevention feature
Like most accurate 3D pedometers, your 3DFitBud has a 10-step error prevention feature, it will begin/resume counting steps once it detects motion resembling 10 continuous steps.
Your step counter does not count the first 10 steps unless you take a 10th step without stopping. As you take a 10th step, the step count sensor turns on and all 10 steps are added and will continue adding until continuous walking stops.
This error prevention feature prevents random, non-walking movements from being falsely counted as steps, because step counters are not capable of distinguishing between one-off stop-start steps and other movements (especially in indoor environments) this is why error prevention is essential. Without it, any movement would be counted as a step.
If your steps are slower or lighter than regular
Pedometers do rely on a certain threshold of step impact to recognize and count steps. If your steps are slower or lighter than regular, or if you are using a walking aid, then the step counter sensor may not be able to detect your steps. This step impact threshold is essential for step counter's to avoid counting false steps.
If your step count was unintentionally reset to zero
Your 3DFitBud step count can only be reset/cleared back to zero by holding down the RESET button on the back of your step counter for 3 seconds. Make sure that the RESET button is not being pressed unintentionally, e.g. when sitting down with the step counter in your back pocket. If your step counter is resetting without pressing the RESET button - please contact us (see below).
